2022 BCYC Pursuit Race

Well we did it! The Pursuit Race was held on 17th September after a break of two years. A pleasantly sunny day with very a very light breeze at the start growing to an enjoyable force 3 for the last 40 minutes providing some enjoyable sailing.

16 boats entered including 2 yachts, 6 catamarans and 8 monohull dinghies. It was great to families on the water too – mixing it with the “big boys and girls”. Achilles 24, Spicy Lady, had a family on board including 2 young children; the Laser Vision was sailed by Richard Woffinden, rear commodore of MYC, with his young daughter Seren, who also shared the helm duties and flew the spinnaker; and a Dart 16 catamaran sailed by Charlie Cole and his young son Isaac, who also shared the helm duties.

The winner was Marc Pressdee on an Aero, closely followed by Tony Rees on a Laser and in third place the intrepid father and daughter, Richard and Seren on the Vision. After 2 and a half hours of sailing, there was only two minutes between the first three, all of which were on the same leg of the course.

The calm conditions didn’t quite suit the cats nor Va Va Voom an Elan 37. However, those aboard the Elan said the enjoyed a 3-course meal while returning to the marina!

Huge thank you to Tony Pettican and Anchem for being the event sponsor and to Alistair Ramsden for providing a number of great additional prizes.

Thanks too to Mumbles YC for their invaluable support, and to those Club members who provided safety cover and race management.

BCYC Re-opening Friday 18th September

Good news – the BCYC will be re-opening on Friday 18th September and we very much look forward to welcoming you to the Club.

We have undertaken a thorough risk assessment, taking into account Welsh Government regulations and UK Hospitality Wales guidance, to provide as safe and welcoming an environment as possible.

There will be some changes to the “old familiar”

  • Table service will be in place for food and drinks
  • Members to pay by debit or credit card
  • Room capacities have been set to meet social distancing requirements and protect your safety
  • The rule of 6 will apply
  • Hand sanitiser will be available at key locations
  • Enhanced hygiene processes are in place
  • Visitors will be required to provide contact details as part of our track and trace process
  • Face masks are not required to be worn by visitors, although this is under investigation by Welsh Government
  • Staff will be wearing face coverings or visors, for your safety and theirs.

Greg and Tina have produced an exciting bar menu for September, but, as ever, if there is something you would particularly like, please speak with them. At this time, 48 hours’ notice for food bookings is required.

We believe, given the layout of the Club, that we can provide one of the safest dining experiences in Mumbles. Whether you wish to dine in the main room or enjoy a private dining experience overlooking the Bay, we have the facilities.

For those who wish to use the Club just for drinks, these will be served in the large room downstairs – no need to book.

The Snooker room will also be open – the rule of 6, hygiene and social distancing measures to be observed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Greg and Tina at the Club or email BCYChonsec@gmail.com
